Types Of Garage Door Repairs In Parker, CO

Having a working garage door is a modern luxury, and necessity. Most garage doors are used every single day, and can be ran around 1,000 to 2,000 times per year.

Because of how often they are being used, garage door repairs are common. Garage door parts can only take so much use, and are rated to last for specific durations before failure.

Let’s take a look at the common types of garage door repairs in Parker, CO.

broken garage door spring parker colorado

Broken Springs

Garage door springs are the most essential components of your garage door system, responsible for supporting the entire weight of the door and enabling it to move smoothly up and down.

These springs store a ton of potential energy in them in order to aid in lifting and closing the door. Proper spring tension is critical to a garage door’s longevity.

However, these springs can break unexpectedly, causing inconvenience and potential safety hazards.

There are several reasons why garage door springs break, including wear and tear from regular use, poor maintenance, improper installation, and extreme temperature changes. Additionally, the type and quality of the springs can impact their lifespan.

If you have a broken garage door spring, do not attempt to lift or work on your door.

It may seem tempting to want to pull it apart to try and get the door open, but do so at your own risk.

Garage door springs, the torsion cables, and hardare are all under extreme tension, and can be incredibly dangerous to work on without proper training or experience.

If you have a problem with a broken garage door spring, call a professional garage door repair company to handle the job.

Worn Out Opener

Garage door openers are an integral part of your garage door system, enabling you to operate the door with ease and convenience.

However, like any mechanical device, garage door openers can wear out over time and require repair or replacement.

One common issue that can cause garage door opener failure is worn-out gears. Over time, the gears in your opener can wear down, causing them to slip or fail altogether. This can lead to difficulty in opening and closing the door or even complete failure of the opener.

Another common issue is circuit board failure, which can result from power surges or other electrical issues. A malfunctioning circuit board can prevent your opener from functioning properly, causing your remotes or keypad to not work properly.

Poor maintenance can also cause premature failure of your garage door opener. Failing to perform regular maintenance tasks such as lubricating moving parts or tightening loose bolts can cause undue stress on the opener and shorten its lifespan.

If you are experiencing issues with your garage door opener, it’s best to have a professional assess the issue to recommend the proper repair.

Attempting to repair the opener yourself could lead to overlooking the reason for the failure, and may cause further damage to the system. A professional can identify the root cause of the issue for you and recommend the appropriate repair or replacement, ensuring that your garage door system is safe and functional.

sensor on garage door aligned properly

Sensor Repair

When the garage door doesn’t want to close, it’s generally an issue with a garage door sensor, wiring, or circuit board.

Should you have an issue with the garage door sensors, holding down the button on the garage door opener can “override” the sensors.

Our team can quickly asses the sensors, and get an idea for why the issue is happening.

Poor Hardware and Faulty Parts

Improperly installed hardware can be a fast track to a catasrophic failure or even a new garage door.

Poor hardware can also come from the type of construction of materials, which may not be made to last.

Often time, more economical garage doors are constructed of light weight material that can break easily.

A garage door and all of it’s parts are meant to work together, to create one ecosystem – which is one smoothly operating overhead counter-balance system.

Routine maintenance allows professionals to make sure your door is up to standards, and running safely.

bad garage door panel that is cracked

Garage Repairs From Neglected Maintenance

Just like a vehicle needs maintenance to stay running without failure, a garage door needs consistent maintenance checks to stay operating safely.

A garage door’s parts are being used often every day, usually multiple times each day. These parts are under extreme tension and can cause parts to wear, bind, or stress.

Properly maintaining the garage door includes tensioning the garage door springs, lubricating essential moving parts, tightening hinges and bolts, checking panel and track alignment, and much more.

Neglecting to do these services can lead to the most catastrophic types of garage door failure.

Often, a simple maintenance check could have been all that was needed to prevent complete replacement.

Common Garage Door Systems In Parker, CO

Wayne dalton garage door repair parker co

The Wayne Dalton Garage Door System

The Wayne Dalton garage door system is a common garage door manufacturer in Parker, especially in newer home builds installed within the last 10-15 years.

Certain models of this garage door are commonly known as some of the lowest grade garage doors available. Coming in at just 1 inch thick along with ultra-light materials makes repairs common place.

To top things off, these doors typically require shims for proper alignment due to poor mounting capabilities, come with plastic rollers that don’t roll well, and patented/proprietary spring systems.

This can make repairs more difficult than they should be and can lead to long lead times for replacement.

One of the worst parts about a broken spring for a Wayne Dalton system is that you can’t see when the spring is broken.

If your garage door won’t open, if it’s running slowly, or if it’s shaking a lot, it might mean you have a broken spring.

This is why we highly recommend you convert your broken springs to a standard garage door spring system. We know Wayne Dalton garage doors in Parker like the back of our hand. Our team is ready to repair your door on the same day as our visit to help you get it running again in no time!

Broken garage door that has fallen off the tracks in Parker, CO

Older Wood Garage Doors (1980-2008)

There are many kinds of garage doors, but one common garage door in Parker, CO is the good old wooden garage door.

These doors aren’t necessarily just made out of solid wood, but many people call the doors “wood” because of the wooden stiles that hold the door together.

Unfortunately, these wooden stiles and composite panels really start to fall apart over 20 to 30 years. Generally, the flashing holding the edges of the panels and the stiles will be the first areas to fail and come undone.

When the door starts to flex, the panels start to sag, and look unsightly. This in turn causes more wear and tear and eventually leads to complete door failure.

Although a wood garage door can last a long time, they are generally higher maintenance and eventually, they will need more garage door repairs in order to keep them running in good condition.

Low Quality Builder Grade Material

Sometimes garage doors and garage door openers fail just due to low quality builder grade materials.

Unfortunately, home builders are typically not incentivized to install better, higher quality systems that may cost more upfront, but last longer.

We call this passing the buck.

If you live in a new build home built in the last 10-15 years, it’s possible the grade of material is of lower quality.

Genie Garage Door Openers

In Parker, CO, Genie garage door openers are a very well known brand. Nowadays, it’s almost always installed with new homes by builders.

Although there are some reliable models of Genie openers, they are not free of their own issues.

Genie garage door openers can occasionally lose their limit and force settings, have orbital sensor issues, encoder problems, and more.

While a Genie garge door does have some good options for consumers they typically aren’t built to last, in our experience.

Is your Genie garage door operating slowly, shaking, or not opening the garage door? If so, do not attempt to run the garage door. You garage door springs may be broken, which support the weight of the garage door. It’s important that a trained garage door professional check your garage door and safely repair it.

Parker Garage Door Installation

The garage door is an essential part of your home’s security and functionality, and provides a safe and secure entrance to your home.

That said, a poorly functioning or outdated garage door can compromise your home’s security and can be a potential hazard to your family’s safety. A new garage door not only enhances your home’s curb appeal but also offers a wide range of benefits such as improved insulation, increased energy efficiency, and enhanced security.

If you’re looking for garage door installation in Parker, you’ve come to the right place. Below, we’ll explore the different types of garage doors and their benefits, helping you make an informed decision on the best option for your home.

When To Consider Replacing Your Garage Door

There are several signs that indicate it could be time to replace your garage door.

One of the most obvious signs is when your garage door stops functioning correctly, making strange noises or not opening or closing smoothly. These signs could indicate a problem with the door’s hardware, such as the springs, cables, or tracks, or even the opener.

At times, it may be best to replace it rather than continue repairing the garage door.

Another factor to consider is the age of your garage door. If your door is more than twenty years old, it may be time to consider a replacement.

Older doors may not have the latest safety features or insulation, making them less energy-efficient and potentially less secure.

Finally, if your garage door detracts from your home’s curb appeal, it may be time for a replacement. A new garage door can improve your home’s appearance and increase its value, making it an excellent investment in your property.

Insulated Vs Non-Insulated Garage Doors

When it comes to insulation, there are pros and cons to both sides.

Overall though, insulated garage doors offer several benefits over non-insulated doors.

These doors help maintain a consistent temperature in the garage, making it more comfortable to use year-round.

Insulated doors also provide better sound insulation, reducing the noise that escapes from the garage and helping to keep your home quieter. Additionally, insulated doors are more energy-efficient, helping to reduce your heating and cooling bills.

But most importantly, insulated garage doors last much longer than their non-insulated counter parts.

The reason for this is due to extra layers of steel, which help to reinforce the sections and prevent flexing or cracking as quickly.

Non-insulated garage doors are a more affordable option and can be a suitable choice for garages that aren’t attached to the house.

They’re also lighter than insulated doors, which can be an advantage if you have an older garage door opener.

Traditional Door Designs and Garage Doors For HOA’s

Traditional garage doors are the most common type of door, and they come in a range of materials, including steel, wood, and aluminum.

These doors often feature raised or recessed panels and can be customized with a range of colors and finishes to complement your home’s exterior.

If you live in an HOA community, you may be required to choose a garage door that meets specific design guidelines. Many HOAs have strict rules regarding the appearance of garage doors, requiring them to match the style and color of the home’s exterior.

Upscale and Modern Garage Doors Parker, CO

If you’re looking for a more upscale or modern garage door, there are several options to choose from.

One popular choice is the glass garage door, which features full or partial glass panels that allow natural light to enter the garage. Glass doors can be a stunning addition to a modern home, offering a sleek and contemporary look.

Another modern option is the steel garage door, which is medium weight and durable.

Steel doors can be customized with a range of styles, including faux wood-stain accents, custom glass options such as frosted glass, black window frames, and more.

Carriage Garage Doors and Overlay Garage Doors

Carriage-style garage doors have a timeless appeal and are often used in homes with a more traditional or rustic style.

These doors feature a distinctive design with decorative hardware, hinges, and handles that mimic the look of old-fashioned carriage doors.

They’re typically made of wood or steel and can come in several pre-set designs.

The panels can be stamped or raised, and overlay garage doors will have long lasting overlay boards layed out across the door for a unique design that really stands out.

In conclusion, when it comes to repairing your garage door, choosing a local company that services in Parker can offer several benefits.

Our garage opener would not lift the door. I called several vendors I have used in the past but they were all 4-6 days out. I called CR Garage Doors after reading some good reviews and they were able to come that night or the next day. Chase was great with good communication before and during the service call. He was right on time. He diagnosed the broken springs and explained the issues, the repair and cost clearly and did the fixes. He even replaced the J-arm, which was installed too close to the door. He also inspected our other door and replaced the rollers. Both doors now work much much better and faster than before. Prices seem reasonable and I would recommend CR Garage Doors to anyone.

We’ve had Chase out a few times. Found his info randomly on the Internet the first time. First he repaired an old garage door and then replaced that door after a bear trashed it. Same day quotes and less than a month turn-around time. He offered us a garage door opener for sale that was refurbished. Worked great until last weekend when a sensor went out. We called him back and he came today and installed a new unit at no charge. Chase is on time, responds quickly, and is a great person to work with. His high level of integrity and work ethic are exceptional. Highly recommend!
